Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a martial art that originated in Korea during the 1940s and has been an Olympic sport since the 2000 Sydney Olympic games. It is now practiced by over 60 million people worldwide.
The Korean translation: Tae (foot) kwon (fist) do (the way/ Art).
There are many great clubs in the UK that teach traditional strikes, blocks, stances, kicks, self defense and belt promotion modules. As well as clubs that will focus more on the sport aspect for competitions.
Fitness/ weight loss
Taekwondo classes will focus on warm up exercises to get the body ready for stretching, as well as kicking and punching drills, blocks, and footwork working all major muscle groups of the body. It is a great cardio workout where you will gain strength, stamina, speed, flexibility, coordination and balance.
Build Confidence/ self esteem
Taekwondo focuses on building strength not only physically but spiritually through the mind. Gaining a positive mental attitude as your skills develop through perseverance.You will learn self defense skills and self control to avoid conflict. This stems beyond the martial art and are life skills you can use in your day-to-day life.
Stress Relief
You will learn breathing exercises used when striking, to relax your body and mind, not only helping with power but mentally too in a safe, controlled, environment that will keep your mind off the stresses in life.
Team Work/ Social
Group classes are a great, fun alternative way from the gym to meet new people and work together when paired up for exercises. Progressing through the journey together and connecting.
